Wedding insurance, explained
What is wedding insurance and do I need it?+
Wedding insurance protects the money you've invested in your celebration. There are two main types: liability insurance, which covers property damage or guest injury at your event, and cancellation insurance, which reimburses lost deposits if you have to call off or postpone for a covered reason. Most venues require liability coverage before they'll let you host.
My venue requires liability insurance — will eWed meet their requirements?+
Yes. Our policy is custom-built to satisfy your venue's requirements, names your venue as an Additional Insured, and includes Host Liquor Liability at no extra cost. If your venue asks for a Waiver of Subrogation, you can add it with one click. It's guaranteed to be accepted — or we refund you in full.
What's the difference between liability and cancellation coverage?+
Liability insurance protects you if you're held responsible for property damage or a guest injury at your event — it's what venues require. Cancellation & Postponement insurance protects your deposits and non-refundable costs if you must cancel or move your wedding for a covered reason, such as illness, extreme weather, or a vendor going out of business. Many couples buy both.
How much does wedding insurance cost?+
Liability policies start at $119 for $1 million in coverage, with higher limits up to $2M per occurrence / $3M total available. Cancellation & Postponement coverage starts at $75, and day-of vendor liability starts at $125. Every policy carries a $0 deductible — there are no surprise costs if you file a claim.
When should I buy, and how long am I covered?+
You can purchase liability coverage any time up to one day before your event. For weddings, your policy covers three full days — rehearsal dinner through farewell brunch — including set-up and breakdown, at up to four venues. Cancellation coverage can be purchased early to protect deposits as you book vendors.
What is a Waiver of Subrogation?+
A Waiver of Subrogation makes your insurance the only policy to pay in the event of a covered claim, even if the venue is partially at fault. It's only required if your venue specifically asks for one — and if they do, you can add it to your eWed policy with a single click.
